SMO 254 is austenitic grade steel that has primary alloying elements as nitrogen and molybdenum. SMO 254 Nuts have high corrosion resistance along with the opposition from the aperture and pitting corrosion environment. SMO 254 grade also exhibits impact hardness up to twice times as stainless steel 316 grade. 254 SMO grade nuts have excellent workability, high tensile strength, and also good resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Although, 254 SMO grade shows cold-forming properties, and can also be used without re-annealing up to the temperature range of 120 Degree C. 254 SMO grade nuts lacks sulfur content, and also lacks machining because of high hardening rate and therefore requires machining tools, positive feeds. Moderate lubrication can offer a reasonable machining rate at a relatively slower pace. Forging and upsetting like hot operation can be performed for 254 SMO grade at the temperature range of 980 to 1150 Degree C.
